Victorian Velvet Distress Ink 

Process: Hot foil the ornament coverplate twice using Spellbinders Glimmer or similar machine. Die cut the ornament out of one panel, plus a few extra ornaments from white to layer for dimension. Shade the edges of the pink ornament with Victorian Velvet, then glue to white layers & add into its spot on the coverplate. Adhere to A2 card. Stamp sentiment in Versamark and emboss with gold. Die cut two bows and layer with a slight offset. Add to ornament with a gem in bow's center. 

Very quick and easy to get a gorgeous effect! I first made cards using the ornament hot foil plate during the Hero Arts Holiday Stamp-Along. You can see more versions here and here. First time trying gold foil with the ornament plate and I love it!! Too bad I've already reached my limit of 3 at the February Christmas Kickstart Challenge since my ornament would meet their theme - oh well.

Process: Foil the branch onto Neenah, then die cut with the included die. Color with Copics. Stamp A2 card with poinsettia bold print stamp tone-on-tone. Stamp and emboss sentiment strip, then mat onto gold. Assemble card - done!

I'm adding the branch card to Darnell's February NBUS Challenge since my new greenery foil set got first play here. And as Darnell would say, how about a Threefer? I took the pink foiled panel left after I'd die cut the ornament out and decided to use it. Had to trim part of the design off since I wasn't careful to get the whole piece of paper on the hot foil plate - it worked though! I embossed the same sentiment directly onto the A2 card and added a gold topper to the ornament.

Process: Die cut lilies from silver & stem/leaves from gold metallic cardstock. Die cut and emboss an oval, trim to half. Arrange lilies and "hill" & adhere to black card, popping up a few flowers & the "hill" with foam tape. Stamp thank you in versamark and emboss with silver ep. Very quick and easy, yet so elegant!

I couldn't resist adding the new Hero Arts Matchbox and Box of Chocolates die sets to my January My Monthly Hero kit. Adorable!! At about 4:44 minutes into the Hero Arts January product release video HERE, there's a quick tutorial on putting together the matchbox. So easy and fun to make! It would be great for gifting earrings or other small items. The full bow was cut twice, plus the center area an extra time. On one bow I trimmed the tails off and adhered the loops upside down to the bow for a layered look. Added the extra center with a foam dot then tucked the trimmed tails under the other ones.

And here's a photo of it open. My friends Linda & Lynn each received a matchbox with a little gift inside for their birthdays earlier this month. Not the pin shown; that one snuck in from my jewelry box just for the photo. 😊

I enjoyed playing with paper dolls when I was young. The Hero Arts version caught my eye when I ended up with the Valentine accessories in my January 2022 My Monthly Hero add-on package. Then I found the Halloween accessories on sale at Anchor Paper so had to order the doll & picnic sets, plus the face detail stamps. Very fun! I thought the kite flying away went well with the sentiment.

A Ducky Easter card

Hi all - I'm sharing the card below at Die Cut Divas today. We have Angle It as our February challenge with sponsor Hero Arts, my favorite company - yay!! Isn't this duckling the cutest?! I thought he'd make an adorable Easter card and the stamp set happens to include an Easter sentiment. I die cut my angled panels from an Easter paper pad and glued them to a white panel. Next I die cut it with a stitched dot rectangle. Stamped the sentiment and found the font hard to read. I carefully blotted out parts with white gel pen and rewrote them the way I preferred.

The duckling image has with 3 layers so I chose my 3 inks and die cut the outline. I always stamp a trial image in my MISTI and put the negative of the die cut around it. I pop the die cut in and stamp, removing it to reset each layer. I find that works best for me. If I'm "off" a bit on stamping the trial layers, I can reposition the negative. Sometimes I'm still "off" and just try to correct things with markers and gel pens.... This time I started with the second layer since it had the feet, making the negative easier to position. I stamped the little patch of grass from the set and included a leftover dragonfly from my Scramble card from a couple weeks ago.

Now for a bonus! My friend Linda (can you believe she has my middle name too?) and her hubby bought a new house and invited me over for lunch. I took them a birdhouse as a housewarming gift and made this card:

I really can't get enough of the Hero Arts banner die set. If interested, you can see other examples using the banners here and here. Fancy W Fold Card

Hey crafty peeps - we're doing Fun Folds this month at Die Cut Divas, sponsored by the fabulous Hero Arts, my favorite company!! Check out my DT post HERE. I wanted to do a fold I've never done so googled some ideas. Found Erin Reed Makes and her video with 5 fun folds. I chose the Fancy W (at about 3:34 into the video) for today's card; it's the inside that has all the fun!! Here's the card front - a simple A2 card with the fold at left on the short side:

It's very easy to construct - watch Erin's video for specifics but the W comes from a 1" x 11" strip folded in four equal sections and you only glue down the outside one on each side. She added four 2" squares, one per each section of her folded strip. Here's a view of the open inside:

I decided it would be fun to use circles & add another fun fold, the peek-a-boo window, to each. Here's a close-up of the windows open:

Fall and Halloween at Stay Crafty with Hero

Most of my Hero Arts Halloween sets are retired but I love them soooo much!! I brought out an oldie but goodie with cute owls dressed as a witch, a ghost and a pirate. I've used them before (see an ancient Flickr post with them here, if interested - oh, how our styles change!!) but I still can't get enough of them. After I stamped, clear embossed and colored my owls and their accessories, I decided it was a big enough crowd for a slimline card. Thought it would be fun having them marching up to a house for treats. I used the same Simon Halloween set for the haunted house as I did on my Twofer card here but I snipped off the top floor. While the house extends past the card, I made sure it wouldn't be too tall for a #10 envelope. The sentiment is from a different Hero Halloween set, perfect for my trick or treating owls.

My slimline is 3.5x8.5 which made it a bit too narrow for the scalloped layer from my newest Sunny Studio slimline set. Instead I used the stitched rectangle die from it, plus the grassy hill from the SS Slimline Nature Borders. I used my paper trimmer for the black mat layer. I lacquered the windows and the witch owl's eyes. Mr. Pirate got a googly eye.

Thought I share a shot of my craft mat full of cut flowers and how I set up my MISTI. If you haven't watch Jennifer McGuire's video about easily lining up the diecuts for stamping, see it on her blog post HERE. I have tried to do it without testing on  a scrap like she does - much better her way!!

At left, see how I took Tim Holtz' suggestion to use magnetic vent covers for storing thin metal dies. When I get a set, I snip them apart (if necessary) and place them on a piece of the vent cover glued to the original packaging for stability. I always cut some negatives to save and use repeatedly with diecuts. I store the dies & negatives with the stamps. As you can see, I stamped a bunch of flowers and will color them as I'm able.

Growing Garden

Happy Sunday everyone! It's a gloomy day here in the Twin Cities but I made it bright playing with new Hero Arts goodies!! The March My Monthly Hero kit arrived in yesterday's mail and I dove right into "processing" it. I cut apart all the dies, made negative sheets for the MISTI and die cut & stamped 3 sets of images. This process took about three hours; there were so many wonderful dies and stamps. Once done, though, it was a breeze to color a bunch of images and put a card together this morning.

Hi all - Day 10 of Kathy's 30 Day Coloring Challenge! Wow, one third done already and I've managed to color something every day - pretty amazing! Kathy's card on Day 4 was so gorgeous that I decided to try creating a similar image with some Hero Arts alphabet and flower stamps. A bit of masking and voile - not even remotely similar, oh well.... At least there's a 'hello' on there!

Chillin' Bird

Hi all - if you didn't get a chance to hop with the Hero Hostesses on Monday and Tuesday, there is still time to hop and post comments for the chance to win prizes from Hero Arts. I just love all the sweet birds and animals in the Winter Time Fun set and the coordinating dies make creating a card a breeze. I stamped and die cut a pile of trees and birds, then colored them with Copics. I decided on a trio of trees with a single cardinal, then decided to arrange them on an oval. I stamped the blue oval with the falling snow stamp multiple times using the mini-MISTI and Ranger Embossing Ink, then embossed with Sparkle powder. I added a white bottom made by die cutting a white oval and then cutting the lower part with a stitched hillside (can't see the stitching after I covered it with trees). I actually trimmed down the bird a bit so the border wasn't so wide. I added Stickles to the snow on the trees for more sparkle.

I die cut one of Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Dies DI198 and adhered this glitter panel to a Mocha folded card (from Hero Arts' Earth Mix PS572). Then I die cut elements from Christmas Trimmings and a Spellbinders Oval. All glitter paper was from the Paper Studio. Talk about crisp die cuts with this set - the Merry Christmas cuts so easily despite the delicacy of the script!!  I could've cut an oval out of the center of my rectangle but instead cut a oval from a separate scrap. I wanted the contrast of the darker oval, rather than a window to the mocha.

Die - Stitched rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes

Kathy inspires me with her beautiful coloring & shading! Mine is nowhere near her level but Kathy makes the point to just keep trying and enjoy the process. I used my new mini-MISTI to compose/stamp the white panel. I needed to repeat a few of the leaf images so I removed the flowers and moved the leaves around before re-stamping. The panel started at 4.25x5.5" but I trimmed it down to fit over the 4x5.25" stitched rectangle mat. All these images from the March 2016 My Monthly Hero kit were super fun to color!!
