A Strawberry Birthday!

Hey there - happy Saturday! I watched Craft Roulette Episode #329 last night and made a card during the show:

Host Mary Gunn had Donna Mack (‪@purplepinkypromises202mainA‬), owner of a Kansas City area craft store, as her guest. Purple Pinky Promises will be invaded by a bunch of us when we go to KC later this summer! The wheel was spun 4 times for our parameters - not my fave project but oh well...

• Project - Book Binding Card: I formed one from a printed A2 card. 
• Colors - Roadside Market: I used yellow, green and red for corn and peppers. 
• Element - Plant(S): I used a strawberry plant image. 
• Random - Grid: I used some grid patterned paper. 

I pulled out a yellow ombré portrait A2 card and scored the left edge at .5" and glued it on the inside for the book binding part. Next I added a strip of grid paper and string twine to the front of that binding. Also die cut two rectangles and added to the right side. Stamped, die cut and colored the strawberry image. Popped onto the card with foam tape and added a puffy birthday sentiment & dots. Very quick - I think it took me about 45 minutes.

I'll send this card to Seize the Birthday #331 using the Anything Goes Option.

Party Donkey!

Hey crafty friends - TGIF and I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend if you're celebrating in the USA!! Two hundred fifty years - quite a milestone!!

I watched Craft Roulette Episode #326 tonight, featuring host Mary Gunn and guest, Jay Thomas (‪@craftbyjay‬) making his 3rd appearance. Jay is live on YouTube on Sunday nights and he loves cats!!

As usual, the roulette wheel was spun four times for the necessary parameters. Mary and Jay created their cards on camera - so fun to listen to their banter while I was crafting along. Like last week, I was able to complete & upload my card before they finished.

• Project - A Dude's Card: - I made a card for a man, a former coworker.
• Colors - Sleigh Ride: I used red/black/grey.
• Element - Farm Critter(s): I used a donkey image.
• Random - Pen: I used both black and white gel pens.

You may remember I ordered a bunch of Unity stamps recently. The donkey image was another fun find - I thought it would make a great birthday card for a man friend with whom I worked in two different offices over the years. Isn't Party Donkey just the cutest?!

I stamped the image, colored with Copics and cut the panel with a stitched rectangle. Inked around the edges with Black Soot DI. Matted the panel in black and added to a dotted paper & a red A2 card. Added details with a white and a black gel pen - done!

I will add my card to Seize the Birthday #329 using the Anything Goes option. I will also share at Darnell's July NBUS Challenge #88 since my donkey stamp got first play today. Oh and btw - Darnell has some sponsors this month and Unity is one of them!!

Once again, I went with something other than a card and made an ATC! I started by die cutting the ATC. The Whimsy set cuts two at a time so I usually use the second one as a backer (and did so here). For the front, I did some stenciling using a new product to me - Lisa Horton's Stencil Deck. I learned of it through Chelsea, owner of Inky Stamper, so I bought my set from her (link above is to her store). I don't get anything for referrals but I like to support smaller companies & Chelsea's price is cheaper than other sources I've seen. 

I started by stenciling the wavy background, then used a dotted one and finally the feather. Since the stencils fit perfectly onto an ATC, this was very eary to do! After doing the feather in a dark teal, I stenciled the shimmery paste over it. The Whimsy ATC stamp set was used on the back panel for all the ATC details. I popped this into the bday card I sent to Jo (Jo's Blogs); she celebrated earlier this month.

As usual, I have a bonus; today it's a birthday card for my cousin's 3 year old grandson. You may remember his sister Addy coming to my house last year and making him a card.

The sweet dragon came with a Spellbinders order - love him!! First I die cut all the dragon pieces and the ballon. I sat on a Zoom call with crafty friends on Saturday & assembled it. Since it was for a young child I went with mostly bright colors. Next I die cut a blue panel with a stitched rectangle, embossed with the birthday text and added to an A2 card. 

To hold the dragon, I decided on an arch. I die cut two essential arches and one color block accent arch and assembled. Added it to the card with a patterned strip behind. Popped the dragon onto the arch along with a puffy sticker sentiment. Doodled some details with gel pens - done!

Since Sir Spelly is getting first play here, I'll add my card to Darnell's June NBUS Challenge #87. I also link up to Seize the Birthday #329 using the Anything Goes options (my 2nd entry there).

A Birthday Flip Card for Craft Roulette!

Happy Saturday - I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! I watched Craft Roulette Episode #325 last night, featuring host Mary Gunn and guest, the very talented Justine Dvorak (‪@JustineDvorak‬) making her 2nd appearance. Justine teaches kindergarden here in Minnesota, a ways west of me. She serves as the Design Team Coordinator at Pajama Crafter Stamps, in addition to other DT roles. Justine also designed a line of farm themed press plates at Spellbinders, some still available HERE.

As usual, the roulette wheel was spun four times for the necessary parameters. Mary and Justine created on camera and made adorable cards! I was able to complete & upload my card before they finished - love doing that!

• Project - Flip Fold Card: - I used a flip card die set. 
• Colors - Tartan: I googled and used the Gordon family colors of navy blue/green/yellow & white.
• Element - Time or Clock: I put a stamped pocket watch on the back side of the flip element, plus my inside sentiment refers to party time!
• Random - Add a Bow: I found some bow patterned paper for the card front, plus I put a die cut bow on my pocket watch.

I die cut the card pieces I wanted to use and assembled. Stamped and fussy cut the pocket watch. Die cut and assembled the bow. Die cut the Betterpressed sentiment I had on a panel of sentiment done last week. A sentiment striped went on the inside. I put heart patterned paper on the back sides. Here's a view of the card flipped open:

Easy peasy with the dies! I will add my card to Seize the Birthday #329 using the Anything Goes option.

Oh and good news - I found the dragonfly die that went missing during last week's Craft Roulette - yay!! I spent many hours looking for it this past week. Finally on Thursday night I found it had been stuck to the bottom of an embossing folder package that I had on the mesk (messy desk). I was giving this folder to my sister-in-law because, in typical fashion, I'd ordered something already in my stash!! I was about to put it in a box with some other items for Donna when the die came falling out - I jumped for joy, let me tell you!

I thought I'd add a Christmas card to the stash. This was a fun one - lots of die cutting which I love! I had the idea to put die cut pieces of the Nordic borders top and bottom, leaving an open patterned window for my cardinal pair to sit. I didn't use the third die in the border set.

Pulled a BPD (a PS sister company) sentiment out of the stash along with some pines & gems. Assembled and done! This one will be my third and final entry for Christmas Kickstart #110 - Season's Tweetings.

This one started as a card for Card Chaos, the 15 minute card challenge (you can find it on Irene Smith's YouTube channel HERE). I finished most of it but felt I needed to add more. I continued adding until it felt ready to share here, mainly more flowers, a butterfly, and a stopper for the pop-up. This set is one of my absolute faves from Poppystamps; you can see other versions HERE and HERE, if desired. If you check the previous version, you can see that I'm very partial to a blue background! Sorry I didn't realize the set was retired at PS but I did find a few left at Frantic Stamper if you're interested - no affiliation there, they have just been a good source for older products, plus new stuff too. Sadly, Frantic is in a retirement sale so we won't have them much longer....

I had to pull out my pop-up birdhouse again; this time I used the cardinal that came in the set. To get the details of the neck/beak, I first die cut a full red cardinal and trimmed out the neck/beak (clearly marked with an etch line). Next I die cut the head in white, colored the neck/beak with a black & a yellow Copic, trimmed it and adhered behind the red. I also decided to give the cardinal a layered wing using dies from a Nordic birdie set. This time I used the pine dies that cut a wreath to go around the outside of the bird house entry. Added some red gems as berries and some ephemera for the sentiment and the stopper.

Birthday Gatefold with Belly Band

Hey there crafty friends - hope you're having a great weekend! I'm doing both the Online Card Classes Brighter Days and Spellbinders Weekender this week - or should I say I'm signed up to do both - I'll be behind the whole time!! Anyway, tonight I watched Craft Roulette Episode #321 with host Mary Gunn & guest Ardyth (‪@ardyth‬) making her 14th appearance. Ardyth will be a presenter this summer at the CR in person event too!

• Project - Gatefold: I formed a gatefold by scoring a 1/2 sheet at 2 1/8 from the long edges and folding them in. 
• Colors - Monet: I used greens/purple/blue/white/yellow. 
• Element - Natural: Flowers and leaves are found in nature. 
• Random - Crinkle Inkle: I inked the gate panels using crumpled baking parchment inked in green, then purple, then speckled egg inks.

I had bunches of Poppystamps dies out since PS is the sponsor for our May Diva Challenge. Once I formed my gatefold and crinkle inkled it, I die cut the curved leafy borders and adhered. Die cut flowers and foliage from a couple other sets and adhered. Die cut an oval and added to a vellum belly band & decorated it with flowers, foliage and a Betterpressed sentiment. I added a Taylored Expressions Insider sentiment panel to the inside.

Simple die cutting on this one! I love Poppy's streamer scripts because you can get multiple sentiments quickly. I popped up just the green balloon, the others were adhered right to the blue panel & excess trimmed off. Added to an A2 card base along with the sentiment. I doodled some lines with a white gel pen and left off any further embellishments.

Because I only used 2 birds of the 18 I made (die set makes 6 birds and I mixed/matched three cardstocks), I went ahead and made two more of this design. Each had a different sentiment from an old Spellbinders kit. Still have one birdie left for a future project...

I had die cut a frame from the rainbow paper for a previous card. Decided to cut a second one from the green paper, then inlay the rainbow window piece. Die cut the balloons and added to the card along with the sentiment. This sentiment has the black outline portion that cut when I made the first sentiment. Just cut a second outline and it frames the white - very easy! Added some white gel pen details to the balloons & black to the sentiment - done!

Host Mary Gunn had Carrie Rhodes (‪@CarrieRhoades‬) as her guest. Carrie was making her 7th appearance on the show & is known for making shaker cards. I did not follow suit! As usual, the wheel was spun four times for the necessary parameters:

• Project - 4 Bar: - I formed a 4 Bar (3.5x4 7/8") from cardstock.
• Colors - x: Wedding: I used colors from a wedding I was in - White/Blue/Yellow
• Element - Sweet(S): I added a die cut cupcake.
• Random - A Touch of Gray: The shadow on the HAPPY was cut from gray cardstock (although it looks kraft in the photo...) 

I still had Emily Moore products out on the table from Tuesday's post so I went with the birthday dies plus a label die set. For the sweet element, I found a bitty cupcake die in a set from SBC Fest. Simple die cutting and assembling - very quick and easy!! I sort of enjoyed the 4 Bar size, especially since one of the Emily Moore labels was perfect for it!

Explosions of Color!

Hey there, crafty friends - I'm back with the two cards I made last night during Card Chaos Episode #46. Host Irene Smith had Walter Zemrock as her guest; Walter is on the Brutus Monroe Design Team, among other things. The theme was Explosion of Color, as voted on by Irene's Facebook group. Since we only have 15 minutes to create, I let patterned paper do the heavy lifting.

I started with an easy ornament shaped Christmas card using some new Emily Moore items I'd ordered online after Emily appeared on Craft Roulette. Simple die cutting, basically. The Merry didn't come with an outline die so I fussy cut one to coordinate with the Christmas part of the sentiment (does have an outline die). I cut a plain red cardstock layer for the back, scored along the bottom of the ornament hanger. This one only took 10 minutes to assemble from scratch. I later added a few embellishments.

I'm adding this to Merry Little Christmas #68 (Anything Christmas Goes); this is my second entry.

There are two rounds for Card Chaos & I was ready for a second card. This time I made a birthday card for a friend's upcoming birthday, combining some Emily Moore with Pink & Main items.

I formed an A2 card from Gina K. cardstock. Next I die cut the doily shaker frame from rainbow patterned paper, then popped it onto the card with foam tape. Next I die cut the HAPPY and added it over the scalloped window, putting foam tape under the parts in the open area. For the row of candles I used a Pink and Main die that would cut around a stamped candle image. Instead, I die cut it from white cardstock and colored the candles, then detailed them with a white gel pen. This piece was sitting in the bits box but needed the flames. The die set has one lonely flame die so I had to quickly cut it 8 times and add a flame to each candle. I used some yellow portions of the rainbow paper. While that ate into my 15 minutes, the rest was quick! Simple die cutting & the sentiment strip was already stamped. I adhered the strip directly to the HAPPY. This seemed busy enough with the marbled paper and candles so I left off any additional embellishments.

I was very excited to see Kristina as a guest. She and Jennifer McGuire announced a new Online Card Classes offering the other day - Brighter Days. It will run May 25-29 & the fabulous instructors will use products Kristina designed!! They're offering a reduced price of $26 on the class if you sign up by May 6th. Of course, I signed up right away (love those OCC events) & ordered the kit! Still need to complete the previous class, oh well.... You can read Jennifer's blog post about this event HERE, if desired.

Once again, the crafty roulette wheel was spun four times for the parameters to use on our project.

• Project - A9: The dreaded (by some players) A9 - just an 8.5x11" cardstock folded in half!
• Colors - Florist Shop: I used greens and pinks; very common at a florist! 
• Element - Birthday(s): I stamped a birthday sentiment. 
• Random - Something from Your Mesk!: Mesk is a messy desk; I have tons of stuff on there, including a box with the inks I used and the butterfly die set.  

Such an easy wheel! I pulled out a jumbo Altenew stamp, stamped it & stenciled it with the coordinating stencil. Stamped a freebie sentiment in black ink. Formed an A9 card, trimmed my flower panel and adhered it. Die cut a trio of butterflies from a scrap of patterned paper. Added to the card along with some gems - done!

I'll add my card to Seize the Birthday #325 using the Anything Goes option. I'll also play in the Altenew May 2026 Inspiration Challenge.

My card came together quickly with wonderful Altenew dies. I started by die cutting a plaid coverplate, backing it with a gingham paper and adding it to an A2 card. Next I die cut the Wishing, then stamped one of the sentiment strips and added it to the long strip that cuts below the word. Assembled and added to the card. Then I die cut the large rose and 2 leafy sprigs from the Garden Picks set & assembled then added to the card. I found a couple ephemera bees in an old Spellbinders card kit. Shaded the wings with a grey Copic and added stickles then popped them onto the card with foam tape.

I will add this card to Seize the Birthday #325 using the Anything Goes option.

I stamped the floral bouquet directly onto a textured white A2 card with Memento ink then stenciled with the coordinating stencil using four inks. I stamped the dots in the same soft blue as the lower left flower. A Betterpressed sentiment finished the card. This one was created earlier this month for Episode #42 of Card Chaos (15 minute cards) where the theme was Clean & Simple (CAS).

Second bonus: I used the third sprig left over from my previous April DCD post; I colored these flowers with pinks. I started with the same textured card as above but, this time, I swiped the soft blue ink onto it for my sprig to land. Also stamped the dots from the Inky Bouquet set, this time in black. A bit stark for my taste so I added a few enamel dots among them.

Hi crafty friends - I'm back with a card for Craft Roulette Episode #316 with host Mary Gunn and guest Jessica Vasher (‪@Jessicavasher‬).

As usual, the roulette wheel was spun four times for the parameters to use on our project.

• Project - Diagonal cut: I stamped a border on a diagonal and fussy cut it. 
• Colors - Calm: I used blue, sage green, & lavender.
• Element - Post(Er)(S): I had a mailbox with post, plus a post card to be posted.
• Random - Hexagon: I used a stamp with a row of hexagons. 

I started by Googling calm colors and found the palette of soft blue, soft sage green and pale lavender. Ivory or cream was also mentioned for a neutral so I picked an ivory A2 card and scraps of the other colors. I stamped a row of hexagons at a diagonal on a pale blue panel and fussy cut the right edge. Then I die cut it with a stitched rectangle and added it to the A2 card.

Next, I die cut the mailbox parts and assembled. Stamped and fussy cut the little postcard. Die cut and assembled 3 butterflies. The postcard has a stamped butterfly but I added a die cut one over top. Added everything to the card. Found an ephemera sentiment strip from an old Spellbinders kit. Added it to the card along with some enamel dots for the butterfly heads. The mailbox is embossed but it's hard to see the pattern. Enhanced it with a gold gel pen and added some white gel pen details.

The mailbox die set was newly used today. It was part of SBC Fest but I still haven't done the class that used that set - oops! Since new, I'll add my card to Darnell's April NBUS Challenge #85.

Birthday Bash fun with Pink and Main - day two

Hey there - I'm back sharing my cards from day two of Pink and Main's Birthday Bash event held online April 18 & 19 (go HERE for day one). First up, a pop-up box card taught by Nichol Spohr:

Mostly die cutting on this one. The box is a narrow one but you could fit two shelves in there, I think. The layering panel for the back was embossed with the cupcake folder we used often on day one. I liked how she had us color the candle wicks with a black marker and put the flame die cut behind them. I used various scraps for my candles & cut the flames from orange and yellow parts of the kit paper.

Oh, and speaking of the kit, I took a photograph:

Lots of fun products in there! Love the stamps and dies and isn't that marbled paper gorgeous?! I can see using the cupcake embossing folder often!

Caitlin Anthony taught the second class of day two, focusing on her style of coloring with Olo markers. I just did a quick color on mine with Copics. I neglected to say it on my previous post that Angie Blom designed the cupcake stamp. I love Angie's art and have a bunch of her digi designs.

Cathy Zielske taught class 3 of day two; here's my take on her card:

We embossed a white panel and splattered it. I just used some Hero Arts reactive inks I had on hand. We provided our own card bases; this textured one came from an old Spellbinders kit. We ink blended on the cupcake; Cathy's was much darker so I call mine underbaked!

Libby Hickson taught the final class of the day. She likes purple as much as I do; her card was loaded with purples:

Some of the stamps in the large stamp set coordinate for a layered look - the presents with bow and the cake slice. They are a bit tricky for me to line up, then Libby took it further by embossing a layer. I skipped that part and just added Stickles. We embossed a white panel with the purple glitter ep, then die cut hearts from it. I did a lot better at heat setting it than I did on day one. I find glitter powders tricky!

Pink and Main has a new line of Twinkle Inks which were used in the classes. I hadn't ordered any ahead of time but afterwards decided to try them - they looked like fun with loads of shimmer.
