Watercolored Tree and some foiling!

TGIF, my friends - woo hoo! Today I'm getting in my third and final entry for the November Let's Squash It! Challenge. You just make any Christmas card using an embossing folder. I've been having fun dusting off some old stuff from the stash!

PinkFresh Studio Holiday Foiled Sentiments

This time I dusted off an old Tim Holtz Alterations ef (no packaging so I don't know its specific name) and embossed a piece of his Jewel Kraft Metallic paper. I sanded the embossing and inked with some Black Soot Distress Ink before matting it in black. The tree was stamped and gold embossed onto watercolor paper. I watercolored it with various water reactive inks - some Distress and some Hero Arts. Added the matted embossed background to an A2 card and popped my die cut tree on with foam tape. Since I had the PinkFresh Studio foiled sentiments out, I used one here - done!

Next, a pair of bonus card, again with nothing to do with Let's Squash It. I've been doing more foiling since the Hero Arts Holiday Stamp Along. I tried a new plate from Hero Arts as well as using the ornament one from the event. I adhered the foiled panels to prefab A2 cards and added a PFS sentiment with foam tape - very quick & easy! The cute little bow on the right came from my friend Arlene (A Bit of This and That) - it's from Birch Press Design's Christmas Ornament Pop Up Easel set. I'll add my snowflake wreath card to Darnell's November NBUS Challenge since it's getting its first play today.

Couple of cards

Hello - hope you're having a crafty day! My heart goes out to everyone on the West Coast, but especially all my friends, who have fires nearby - so scary!! Thinking of you often and hope this ends soon!!

I'm sharing a couple of cards - first up, a "thinking of you" made with some Spellbinders products:

I used the letterpress panel I had made here. Since it was on watercolor paper, I put a bit of yellow wash in the center, then added ephemera from the July Spellbinders kit. A foiled sentiment I made in my maiden run with the Glimmer machine finished off the card. I sent this one to Darnell's friend Verna - hoping she's doing ok with all the smoke in the air out in California!

Next, a sympathy card with a Spellbinders flower set I just rec'd. Had to laugh, no more than opened the package from Spellbinders when I spotted the set on clearance at my Hobby Lobby! Oh well, I guess the shoppers in my town aren't into foiling! I did pick up a couple other sets practically for free - will use those in future. 😀😀

I think my foiling turned out better on these flowers than my first attempts but on the leaves I had some stray foil that I trimmed out. I had made the flowers but didn't have a card for them until I learned of a friend's passing. We'd lost touch over the past 10 years but Faye & I were close back in my 30's and sang in a quartet together when I lived in Wisconsin. Faye worked as a nurse and was always so kind and compassionate. I remember a story her hubby told (he predeceased her) about a car trip they were taking. They came upon an accident and Faye made him pull over so she could help - no mask, no gloves, she just went right in there until the EMTs arrived. That was Faye to a tee - RIP!

Foiled! And Foiled Again!!

Hey everyone - I have to laugh when I hear the word foiled. I think of that villian in the old Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons who would said "curses, foiled again" whenever his evil plot failed. But now I'm talking about foiling on cards using the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil system. Here's my card (I kept as much shadow off as I could):

I was shopping at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago and noticed they had the Glimmer Hot Foil System set on special. I resisted - didn't need that, I said to myself. Then Jennifer McGuire showed all her fabulous cards and tips here - she made it look fun & easy. So today when I went to Hobby Lobby, I told myself I'd get the set if it was still on special. It was; so here I am with foiling on a card!! This one will go to one of my chorus members for our Stay-in-Touch program. It's a version of a previous card but I figure, with over 100 to make, I might as well modify each batch. I make & send about 8 cards every two weeks.

The oval was my first attempt at foiling - here's how it looked right after:

As you can see, I got foil where I didn't want it and my oval went a bit off the page. To get around the first problem, I fussy cut the oval. I flipped the flat end to the bottom & used flowers to cover it up! Next I tried some sentiments - Best Wishes came with the set and the rest came in a separate set I also purchased. One plate shifted in the machine ruining the "Thanks a Bunch" sentiment, oh well - I'm just learning, right? Otherwise, I got a bit better at it!

Next I tried a letterpress onto watercolor paper using the oval plate and Hero Arts ink:

Isn't that gorgeous? I love the texture of the watercolor paper showing through - so pretty in real life! I'll make a card with that panel sometime soon. I'll add my card to Virginia's August Show and Share (my last of four entries) and to Darnell's NBUS Challenge since my glimmer plate is new. Thanks again to both of them!
