Today I'm sharing a card inspired by the Let's Squash It!! Challenge #12 Sand It! **Update - it can't be for the challenge because my embossing folder doesn't have a number. I don't have any of those with me at present.
Supplies: Paper - Ms Sparkle A2 kraft card;
Tim Holtz kraft metallic; Neenah white
Embossing Folder - Taylored Expressions Nordic Holiday (retired)
Dies - A Jillian Vance Design Sweet Gingerbread Add On Set &
Taylored Expressions - Birch Tree Accessories;
Hero Arts Nesting Oval Infinity Dies
Other - Parklane gems; Stamp on It vellum;
Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Strips Extra Large Christmas
I started out with a stitched rectangle embossed with the Nordic Holiday. The pattern seemed crooked so I trimmed it and backed with white and adhered to kraft for the Scandinavian look. Was going to just add the deer with a merry die cut but decided to put vellum behind him. Ugh, the background still looked crooked so I added some snowbanks and then a long, printed sentiment strip to cover up a wrinkle.
I definitely don't like how the vellum looks pink atop the metallic red - not just in photo but in real life - darn it!! Oh well, another Christmas card for the stash and I really love the sanded kraft metallic paper. I'd not done it with this paper until now - great effect!!
Thanks for stopping - hope you have a crafty day!!

Love your embossed and sanded background and I think the vellum looks great providing a highlight for the reindeer xx
Beautiful card, Linda! Thanks for sanding it with us at Let's Squash it, Jo x
terrfic card, Linda - and had really forgotten about that technique - really is a great background for your handsome stag - and didn't watch anything about 9/11 - just couldn't bear to go back to that day.
Such beautiful look has your card with the Scandinavian metallic embossing you sanded! It looks really perfect with the snow banks and the deer! The vellum is a lovely stack!
Looks awesome Linda. Very effective
Just beautiful!!!
We are definitely our own worst critics Linda because I think this is an amazing card! I love the sanded embossing technique and it looks wonderful with the metallic card. The vellum is a subtle way of highlighting the deer and the snow drifts look perfect - in fact I'm willing to bet this card takes pride of place on someone's mantlepiece this Christmas!! Vicky x
Great creation for the challenge!!
Dear Linda, this card looks awesome, love the metallic on kraft and the vellum behind the deer. One little thing... we added a little twist and asked you to use an embossing folder that included numbers or letters, and the sanding thing. I don't think this one has numbers or letters, but do tell me if I'm wrong. It is a beautiful card. Thanks for joining the fun at Let's Squash It! Hugz
don't be so hard on yourself, linda! when i saw the card i just thought incredible it looked! and it does look incredible!
It looks fabulous including the vellum piece. The sanding brings a bit of pink that coordinates perfectly. Lovely card.
The sanding does look neat on that paper! Great design, Linda!
